Assets and Barriers Assessments

Transportation and Environment

The environment and transportation are assets and relate to each other because transportation is essential to your destinations.

Within the limits of Belltown, there are many city parks of varying sizes, restaurants, cafes, bars, apartments. People living in Belltown also enjoy the benefits of the ocean, which includes access to the bay, aquarium, and various parks with a water view.

Located in Seattle, many roads and pavements in Belltown are built on very steep hills, making it difficult to walk around. However, public transportation options such as buses, links, and shared scooters can help avoid these hills. Furthermore, Belltown is biker-friendly and has bike lanes designated for bikers to avoid traffic and pedestrians.

With so much within this environment, how else will we visit all places this neighbourhood has to offer without transportation.

Public Art with Gender and Sexuality

When we observed these topics, we saw that they were both forms of self-expression. The group saw Pride flags in the windows of the stores, bars, hair salons, cafes, and apartments throughout the neighborhood. With so many visual representations of pride, people can see Belltown as a safe area to share their identity and self-express.

Similarly, in most buildings, murals and graffiti expressed the town's personality. In most of the artwork, we were able to see the time and effort the artist(s) have put into sharing their ideas. While many pieces didn't include words, the visual representation of the concept allowed the public to understand the identity and opinions of the artist(s).

Overall, public art, along with representations of gender and sexuality were an asset to the community because it created a safe and creative environment in which people could express themselves.
